Political Science

Do you know who your President or Prime Minister is? Probably yes, but do you know exactly what it means to be them? Probably not. It means that they’re number one, they have the majority of control... Not very specific, is it? That’s where political science comes in.

Political science is an extremely broad subject that covers everything about your governments. Your head (a.k.a. President, King or Queen, or Prime Minister) doesn’t have absolute power, in our day and age, no one does.

We have senators, ministers of legal affairs, member of parliaments, oppositions etc. etc. Each country is different, so there’s no point in getting into details, but everyone should know the basics.

If there was a serious problem in your community, who would you go to? Depending on the situation, it could be the school board, but more likely it’ll be the MLA or local government worker that you’ll need to discuss it with. They’re there to help, even if we like to wave them off as show figures.

As much as we love to make fun of lawyers and our politicians, political science actually has a reason for being called a science: every decision, speech, or announcement that is said has to be carefully edited repeatedly so that the message is clear and no one gets offended. It’s the second part that makes it a science.

Political science is meant to involve the public to an extent—we get to decide who goes into Parliament or the White House or your countries choice of big buildings that have lots of security. Other than that, it gets too difficult to involve so many millions of people. The reason we have representatives is so they can represent our opinions. Writing complaint after complaint and mailing it in, won’t get you much, and really, think of the postage.

There are hundreds of journals, magazines, newspapers, Television programs and more that are designed to keep you in touch with political science and its surrounding areas, and they’re all made to fit your convenience—try taking advantage of them once in a while. Plus, they usually have comics.
