Orlando Science Center

The history of the Orlando Science Center in Florida began in 1955 as the Central Florida Museum, and in 1960 opened its doors in the Orlando Loch Haven Park. It continued to educate the public throughout the 60s as a museum that taught about the artifacts of the Florida and Caribbean area. The decade of the 1970s saw dramatic change for the Central Florida Museum. The focus of the museum changed to an interactive approach to scientific learning and technology for the visitors. With the new emphasis of science and technology, and its continued physical growth, the museum officially changed its name in the mid 1980s to the Orlando Science Center. A physical science and a traveling exhibit hall, along with an interactive area for preschool and younger aged school children opened to the public. The next phase of growth began in 1990 with the exhibit NatureWorks, and ended with the grand opening of a new center building in 1996.

The meager beginnings of the Orlando Science Center 50 years ago have now expanded into a very modern educational place for all that come to visit. Teacher leadership programs and scholarships opportunities for students are two valuable assets offered. There are other types of programs such as those for homeschoolers to have an interactive experience with different scientific experiments too. Scouts may complete certain badge requirements, and camps are offered throughout the summer for children when they are out of school. Programs for the disadvantaged help many throughout the community, and educational centered birthday parties, and over night campouts are a regular part of the Orlando Science Center. Also a day of family fun is available too, so make sure to visit the Orlando Science Center soon. There is no telling what your child or you just might learn.
