Earth Science

Do we really know how the Earth was created? Scientists have speculated for years now and have yet to agree on one answer. Each day though, we are making new developments and breakthroughs and learning more things about the planet we live on.

Earth science dominates our lives, but what does the average public know about it? It’s an incredibly vague name although is does get straight to the point. There are different categories that it includes, such as meteorology, oceanography, geography, and paleontology. Each category is unique and quite intense in its own way.

Can you imagine just how much Earth science surrounds us? The weather decides how we build our houses and lead our lives: if you live in a zone that frequently gets earthquakes, your buildings will have to have major support systems. That’s meteorology.

We all know the damage that an angry ocean can do: no one is exempt from the possibility of floods. What kind of Earth science is that but oceanography! Could we go swimming with the fishes, scuba diving near the corals, fishing for dinners, or sail across the seven seas without having some clue as to tides, currents or possible storms? That’s all science!

Everything Mother Nature has laid out for us is Earth science. If you were told that enormous predators once roamed the Earth, would you believe them? And yet scientists have collected bones and fossils that prove the existence—and extinction—of dinosaurs. Horror films and books feed off of evil monsters hiding under the bed until nightfall, and where do they get the inspiration from? Paleontology. Some of the scariest experiences come from history, and dinosaurs certainly would be classified as scary.

Earth science is around us every second; we have built our entire society around it because there is no other way. The other planets may beat up in colour or temperature, but we’ve got more microscopes!
