The twenty-first century has so far been defined by one thing: technology. True, the start was more in the last few decades but the development has steadily risen. We have Blackberries, palm pilots, laptops, cell phones, mp3 players—and we’re constantly making leaps in advancement. The majority of the population knows the basics, but it’s the new generations that are controlling everything techno thanks to one subject that the generation of the baby boomers didn’t have nearly enough of: computer science.
Computer science happens to be an incredibly vague name, it covers everything from plug this cord here and that one there, to figuring codes for websites. We all know the basics of the basics, and there are now courses, mainly in high schools, that are aimed at teaching us more about the Internet and computer science.
Make no mistake, making websites and such is no easy task—normally, people that don’t understand much about computer science are eager to assume that. There are various codes, designs, passwords, symbols etc. that need to be memorized—and the majority of them are frequently changing.
Much of computer science doesn’t even involve the tradition computer. As mentioned above, there are countless gadgets on the market that are made to fit our every convenience. Unfortunately, the schools and their figures of authority are not impressed with the growing number of said devices in the classroom. Each student has turned into a miniature Inspector Gadget—and they’re not solving crimes.
Remember when nine-inch televisions were the new thing? Well, in mainly everything except televisions, smaller is better. Every minute detail in every nook and cranny has now been degraded to microscopic, just so the overall cell phone or palm pilot can be a millimeter smaller than it already is. It’s convenient alright, the question is, is it worth it while we run the risk of cancer?
